About Us
West Virginia Parent Connections at Edvantia is one of the Parental Information and Resource Centers funded by five-year grants from the U.S. Department of Education. These centers are meant to help schools and school districts do a better job of involving parents in education. Effective parent involvement activities can lead to improved student achievement and stronger partnerships between families and educators.

WV Parent Connections in West Virginia One job of WV Parent Connections is helping parents understand the federal law that determines what states and school districts need to do to qualify for federal funding. This law is known as the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, or NCLB. The law has many sections, and it can be confusing. On this Web site, in meetings, and at other events, WV Parent Connections provides information to help parents and educators stay up-to-date with NCLB. See our Family Resources and Educator Resources for more information about the law. About half of the 55 county school districts in West Virginia appear on the NCLB improvement list and/or the Title I sanction list. The state department of education has asked WV Parent Connections to work with these districts to determine what actions are needed in the area of parent involvement. Many needed services fall into the category of helping schools get information to parents. |
Edvantia's Work
Edvantia is a nonprofit corporation, founded in 1966, that partners with education agencies, foundations, publishers, and service providers to transform education through research and development. Edvantia provides clients with a range of services, including research, evaluation, professional development, and technical assistance. Edvantia’s work with WV Parent Connections is a way for the organization to become more aware of and involved with the people who are clients of the schools—West Virginia families.
